No Surprises Act & Your Rights
The No Surprises Act is a federal law that took effect on January 1, 2022. It protects patients from unexpected medical bills for certain services. Under the law, healthcare providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the bill for medical items and services.
Your Right to a Good Faith Estimate
You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate (GFE) for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services. This includes counseling and therapy services at Bloom and Balance Counseling LLC.
- Ensure your provider gives you a GFE in writing at least 1 business day before your service or item.
- You can also ask for a GFE before you schedule an item or service.
- If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your GFE, you can dispute the bill.
What's in the Estimate
Your estimate will include the cost of each session and any related services. It does not include unexpected costs that couldn't be predicted, such as additional sessions needed for crisis support.
How to Request Your Estimate
We provide estimates to all self-pay clients during the intake process. You may also request one at any time by contacting our office directly via email or phone.

Requesting Your Estimate

How to Request & Resolving Disputes
Estimate Accuracy
If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill. You may contact the health care provider to let them know the billed charges are higher than the estimate and ask them to update the bill or negotiate.
